The Outer Hebrides - Autumn Colours. Visit the Isle of Lewis & Harris, Isle of Berneray, Benbecula, North & South Uist, Isle of Skye
Day 1 - We depart from the usual places, stopping en route and arrive in the late afternoon into the Station Hotel
for 2 nights This is a historic building, located in the heart of Perth, just a minutes walk from the town centre, the theatre, concert hall and the River Tay. All the large comfortable, spacious rooms have high ceilings and space to move. The Starbucks lounge and garden bar look out onto sweeping lawns with indoor eating area.
- A leisurely day to enjoy Perth and to view some of the delightful scenery and attractions in the area.
- We continue north along the A9, through the Cairngorms and Speyside, then for a stop in the highland capital of Inverness. We travel on through glorious scenery to Ullapool for an early evening crossing to Stornoway. Late dinner at the hotel.
Stornoway's largest hotel and just half a mile from the ferry terminal. All bedrooms are comfortably furnished. The restaurants offer traditional Scottish meals and the bar has a selection of draught beers
Day 4 - A wonderful guided tour around the Isle of Lewis, viewing traditional Blackhouses, amazingly still lived in until recently. See Scotlands Stonehenge at Callanish and a historic Broch at Carloway.
Day 5 - A day of island-hopping. We travel through Lewis and Harris, famous for Harris Tweed, made by the crofters. We take the morning ferry crossing to the Isle of Berneray. We travel south, crossing by causeway the island of North Uist to Benbecula to the Dark Island Hotel.
Isle of Benbecula for 2 nights - Situated 300m from a secluded beach. "Machair" tracks close to the hotel entice you to stroll though the profusion of wild flowers, listening to corncrakes, oystercatchers and lapwings. All rooms include TV, radio, refreshments, hair dryers and en suite bathrooms. The hotel is fully licensed with a fine selection of malt and deluxe whisky, a well balanced wine list and a choice of Hebridean ales.
Day 6 - A leisurely guided tour of Benbecula and South Uist, with its Bonnie Prince Charlie connections.
Day 7 - Board a ship at Lochmaddy for the crossing to the northern tip of the Isle of Skye. We then travel on a wonderfully scenic journey through Skye and the Highlands of Scotland, alongside the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, before a final overnight stop at the Watermill Hotel in Paisley - late dinner tonight
Day 8 - After breakfast, we head homewards, stopping for high tea.
