Remembrance Sunday & Last Night of the Proms

Remembrance Sunday & Last Night of the Proms

Pay your respects to the fallen on the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day at the National Memorial Arboretum

  • Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire  -  Home to over 350 thought-provoking memorials, each with a story to be discovered. The memorials are diverse in nature, rich in symbolism and collectively represent a broad population of society from military associations, charitable organisations, emergency services and individuals. We have included Reserved Seats in the Pavilion Marquee  - There will be a welcome talk about the Arboretum. The Armistice Day service and parade commences at 10.40. hrs. and will also be relayed on screens into the Marquee. Includes a buffet lunch.

  • Wonderfully charismatic Tutbury Castle Curator, Lesley Smith presents her new character PEGGY KNIGHT at HM The Queen’s Tutbury Castle -  Unlike most of the famous characters portrayed here, Peggy Knight was an understated heroine, who lived in the shadows, as a member of Churchill’s Special Operations Executive during the Second World War. This young woman was a shorthand typist in 1944 at 24 years of age, living in north London. Suddenly she found herself recruited and after just two short weeks of training was parachuted into enemy-occupied France. What Peggy achieved fighting alongside a politically divided Resistance already in disarray is truly amazing, and she was decorated for her heroism by three different nations, before returning to a normal life and marriage. Learn more of those tense months in France and Peggy’s immense courage and patriotism as she looks back on her experiences.

  • Last Night of The Proms with the Diamond Jubilee Orchestra  - A grand concert in the style of the concert from the Royal Albert Hall. November 2018 is 100 years since the end of the first world war, so this special night will have a special tribute to the music and artiste of two world wars. It will feature music celebrating the best of British from the classic tunes of the war years  - The Dambusters, 633 Squadron, We’ll Meet Again, to the swing music of the 50’s and the popular tunes of today. Music of the last 60 years  - James Bond, Cats, Titanic, Star Wars and best loved classical tunes  - Nesson Dorma, 1812 Overture, building towards a grand finale of famous flag waving standards - Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem and Rule Britannia. Join in all the fun and flag waving
